African Safari!
This week in the EYFS we have been on an African Safari! We have learnt all about the different animals that live in the Savanna and incorporated this theme into all areas of our learning.
In Child Initiated time we have been busy making giraffe hats, crafting our own binoculars with cardboard tubes and string, using unifix cubes to make and writing about African animals and we even had a Savanna themed playdough activity!
Our book of the week this week was Handa's Surprise, in the story Handa collects fruits to take to her friend Akeyo, unfortunately for Handa she encounters some hungry animals along the way who take the fruits for themselves! On Friday afternoon the children worked in their groups to each prepare one of the fruits to later share with the class. We re-read the story and as we reached a new fruit we shared them out and spoke about the different flavours and textures, I was thoroughly impressed with the children's bravery as some of the fruits were completely new to them! We tried: orange, mango, pineapple, passion fruit, avocado and tangerines.
Below you can see a snapshot of our week, it's been extremely busy but fun in equal measure!
