Hapa Zome!

Happy first Forest School Friday back after a lovely 2 week break!

Year 6 have had a great activity today to get our forest school sessions off to a good start.

We practised some Japanese Hapa Zome. This is the art of extracting natural dye from flowers and leaves.

We used cotton fabric, gathered interesting looking leaves and colourful flowers.

These were then put between the cotton and we used wooden mallets to bash the dye from the leaves.

The creations can be as specific or as abstract as you like. They always tend to remind me of impressionist paintings!

Year 6 embraced the sessions and enjoyed the process of getting the dye from the plants.

They were in good spirits today and had fun outside.

We had a nice cup of hot chocolate with children taken turns to try and get the fire going with a flint and steel. Well done Maya and Roxy for getting the fire lit!!

Have a great weekend, see you next week👋🏻
