World Book Week!
Here at East Farleigh we had our first ever World Book WEEK! It was great to extend the fun of World Book Day to a whole week and the children were sure to make the most of it!
On Monday we had a first for East Farleigh, our very own reading scavenger hunt where the classes competed against each other to earn points, they had to photograph themselves in different reading scenarios and do challenges such as: recreate a famous book scene, spell a book title using your bodies, find a secret reading spot in the school and take a reading-related photo that will make someone laugh! The children fully embraced this challenge and the results were fantastic - a very well done to Year 3 for being the overall winners!
We were also joined by our lovely families for a shared reading afternoon to finish the day, it was great to see so many parents and relatives in the school all reading at the same time!
On Tuesday we had our first Poetry Performance in the afternoon, we sat in a large circle in the hall and took it in turns to perform a piece we had rehearsed in our classes. This was a real highlight of the week, showcasing our children's oracy and performance skills. They worked so hard to memorise their lines and it paid off, such a fantastic afternoon.
Also on Tuesday we stayed a little later and enjoyed a Bedtime Stories session in our classes, the children got changed into their pyjamas and comfy clothes, drank hot chocolate and enjoyed listening to stories with their teachers. We had a fantastic turn out for this event and it's one the children have been talking about non-stop since!
On Wednesday we enjoyed a number of creative activities including: exploring picture books through art and design in our classes, creating book covers for famous parables in RE and by storytelling through instrumentation and composition in Music!
Thursday was World Book Day! The children went above and beyond with their costumes this year, it was fantastic that the sun shone and we got to have our annual costume parade on the playground. Well done to our winners of 'best costumes' - Emmy, Cle
o, Jack, Tilly, Penelope, Poppy and Danny-Joe!
We were also visited by a travelling workshop based on performing arts. Each class took part in a music and movement workshop where they learnt a dance based on a book of their choice, this was a really fun and immersive way of enjoying literature and the children fully embraced it!
Finally on Friday, we finished the week with a Buddy Up reading session in the afternoon followed by our weekly celebration assembly where we got to look back on the many successes from the week. It was the first time we had a whole week of World Book Day celebrations and I'm sure it won't be the last..!
Please enjoy some lovely photos from throughout this week.
