Year 6 Hamlet Wood Forest School 6th March
Another really awesome day was had for our off site forest school session. Year 6 were the second year group to experience a great day at Hamlet Wood.
Our first activity ‘Connecting to the earth’, was a scavenger hunt which involved using our senses. Smell, touch, sight and listen in particular. It is a fantastic way of stopping for a moment and really appreciating our surroundings. Being in a real woods with lots of space is a real treat for the children - especially because they are able to explore a new outdoor space and gain a bit more of an appreciation for nature and how beneficial it can be for us.
We had a den building activity in our groups which was a hit. The children were able to explore and choose a spot they thought was best for building a den. We built some natural dens from natures resources. It was brilliant to see the team building and creativity!
I had some fantastic helpers for making the fire our lunch. I was really proud of how safely and confidentiality this was done.
As it was the last day of week, we read a lovely story at the end of lunch called ‘The cafe at the edge of the woods’. The children then had a chance to play before it was time to get collected by mums and dads.
It was a really great day in the woods.
